Sounds True Submission Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in Sounds True. Our mission is to inspire, support, and serve continuous spiritual awakening and its expression in the world. We are continually looking for new material for our catalog in three main categories: Instructional Audio/Video, Books, and Music.

Instructional Audio/Video: We publish programs of substantial information on subjects which include psychology, spiritual traditions, self-discovery, creativity, health and healing, relationships, women’s and men’s issues, mythology, work issues, aging, facing grief and loss, and other subjects for the inner life. We strive to make each recording we publish valuable both spiritually and intellectually, with an everyday application in our lives. These programs should be intensive, challenging experiences, that can be listened to and learned from again and again.

Sounds True audio programs are original material presented by dynamic speakers in their own voice. Our specialty is presenting engaging lecture material, most often recorded in our studio. We do not, with rare exceptions, publish audio books, and do not use professional readers. Video format is generally reserved for teachings that require a visual element, such as yoga or hands-on healing modalities.

Books: Sounds True books are intended to become spiritual classics– substantive, enduring works of genuine wisdom. Our book/CDs are integrated learning experiences consisting of a text of approximately 20,000 words providing a clear, accessible presentation of a particular teaching, accompanied by a 60-80 minute audio recording of guided practices.

Music: The ideal Sounds True music artist is a spiritual practitioner whose music is deeply informed by that practice, bringing the listener into their experience of awakening or healing. Much of our music has a practical application or identifiable benefit to the listener, ranging from music for deep relaxation to music intended for ecstatic dance.

At this time, we do not accept submissions in the following categories:

  • Channeled or subliminal material
  • Guided relaxation recordings
  • Hypnosis recordings
  • Works of poetry or fiction
  • Material intended for children
  • Material on parenting
  • Pre-produced products intended for distribution

You may submit demo tapes, CDs or videos (a home recording is fine), a written outline and description of your material, biographical information, and any reviews you may have. In the case of books you may send an outline and sample chapters, or a completed manuscript. Send submissions to the attention of the Acquisitions Department, at the address printed below.

Unsolicited submissions are processed by mail only. Due to a very high volume of submissions received, we can only respond to submissions we are interested in publishing. We will return all materials after careful review within 6-12 weeks, if a self-addressed, stamped envelope (large enough and with enough postage for all of your materials to come back to you) is included with your package. Please send only copies of your work, never originals.

Thank you again for your interest in Sounds True. If you have material that meets the guidelines above, we are eager to hear from you.
